(PRESS RELEASE) SARASOTA, FL — Black Pearl Vision – the world’s only Black-owned and woman-owned contact lens manufacturer – has acquired Ireland-based color contact lens manufacturer PolyDev, and expanded its signature product line to include opaque color contact lenses in toric, plano, and spherical parameters. Black Pearl Vision, formerly known as Hydrogel Vision Corp., manufactures the Extreme H2O product line which is best known for its differentiated offerings that personalize the contact lens wearing experience.

“There’s limitless potential for this expansion as we continue broadening our footprint in the vision industry and improving eye health for those who are underserved or underrepresented,” said Dr. Shante’ Williams, CEO of Black Pearl Vision. “The work of our incredible team and partners will help strengthen our expertise in research and development to provide more options for contact lens wearers.” The TORIColors base lens, Extreme H2O, is known for its ultra-hydrating material that provides outstanding all day comfort. The combination of this material, along with Polydev’s innovative and vibrant color technology, led the company to a combined mission of Beauty Meets Comfort.

PolyDev is the manufacturer behind TORIColors, the only molded opaque cosmetic contact lens for patients with astigmatism. The company and its 2,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Dunleer, Ireland, will be housed under Black Pearl Vision’s umbrella as part of the deal, expected to close in June for an undisclosed amount. Additionally, Black Pearl Vision has also expanded the TORIColors product line to include plano and spherical color contact lenses. The monthly, disposable lenses will be available in four colors: Seabreeze Blue, Emerald Green, Golden Amber and Horizon Grey.

“The efforts of Black Pearl Vision to widen access for contact lens wearers were a perfect match with the innovation we’ve nurtured at PolyDev,” said John T. Mulvihill, Ph.D., CEO at PolyDev. “We’re committed to working together in this next phase of growth to continue providing quality products for all consumers.”
