Hi so I just found this sub and had a few questions after reading around.
I have a -6.5 prescription and I’ve never been worried about my eyesight before as contacts have worked fine and the progression was slowing (I’m now 25) but recently after chatting to friends most people I know are only like -2/-4max and it lead me to think omg my eyesight is quite bad.
I’ve just found out today that having short sightedness increases the risk of myopic macular degeneration and I’m a little shocked as no eye doctor ever told me this! Is the risk actually that high?
Google is literally making it sounds like anyone over -6 is a very high risk from the age of 30-40 surely this can’t be right? I have health anxiety so I know how dangerous Google can be with scaremongering.
Just want to hear thoughts and how everyone else copes with anxiety around vision.
