my dad had a retinal detachment in his 40’s, he is myopic and has type 2 diabetes that was not in the best of control at the time. he did not start to see a retinal specialist until after his detachment.
i am 21, highly myopic (-7/-8), have lattice in both eyes. i will begin to see a specialist 2 times a year following a laser photocoagulation i had done a couple days ago for an atrophic hole.
are my chances higher due to my dads history, or will they be mitigated due to my biannual retinal specialist visit and the laser prophylactic i’ll have done on both eyes?
i can’t find any article with specific percentages. however, i do plan to ask my specialist.
