I've had a total of 5 prescription changes ever since I got glasses, each one increasing in power, except the last one, surprisingly. I went to a new doctor for that one and he said your last doctor gave you a way too high prescription. I had a hard time adjusting to the new one at first but it only took a week.
After a while they broke accidentally, so I said why not just use my old ones. I tried on my most powerful glasses and boy was it excessive. Then I thought, well if I adjusted to a lower prescription before why not go even lower? I tried on all my old glasses and realized my very first were actually good. Just slightly too weak that I felt it was perfect to experiment on another readjustment. So far so good. I see perfectly with them in sunny weather but not so much in dark or cloudy. Also, I never wear my glasses for close work, like reading.
As far as I remember my current and oldest one is -1.25 and -1.75, the last prescription with the new doctor was -1.75 and -2.25, while my strongest was close to -3 in both eyes. I only discovered myopia-curing “gurus” after this self-experiment. I generally think they are quacks but I do agree that doctors and patients alike lean toward higher than necessary prescriptions.
