Fear of blindness- degenerative myopia

I (20F) have degenerative myopia with -10 and -9 in left and right eye. My family has a history of eyesight problems with my grandfather being blind as a result of retinal detatchmentand my father just having retinal detatchment surgery a little while ago. What are the odds that I go blind and should I be taking steps to prepare? My vision is still getting worse each year so it has not stablized. I wear contacts usually, but do have glasses as well.
